Specialists talk about what can lead to this condition, having chronic fatigue syndrome can affect your daily life

Feeling fatigue upon waking can be common in people who sleep a few hours, live with stress, do not eat well or have different work hours, however, when this persists it can be an indication of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, says this Wednesday a specialist.

Perhaps it is normal that it costs us to wake up in the morning , but if you feel exhausted practically all day, we can talk about chronic fatigue syndrome.

"It is a disorder with heterogeneous characteristics that is characterized by feeling extreme fatigue that cannot be attributed to any pre-existing disease," surgeon Carlos César Carrasco Curiel explains to Efe.

According to the specialist, who is a medical liaison at Silanes laboratories, there are some other symptoms that are related to this condition.

Among which are the difficulty to perform physical and intellectual activities, or when sleep disorders occur.

According to the study "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and its Diagnosis in Internal Medicine" of the Internal Medicine services of the La Paz University Hospital, of the Autonomous University of Madrid, it is estimated that this syndrome affects between 2 and 5 million people worldwide. from the age of 40, mostly women.

While in Mexico, estimates from the Ministry of Health affirm that 7 out of every 100,000 people suffer from this condition.

Carrasco Curiel points out that there are no specific causes for this syndrome, but they can be viral or the result of herpes or leukemia, although it can have other infectious or psychological causes.

Because the symptoms are mostly scattered, many doctors are not able to diagnose it correctly.

That is why Carrasco Curiel points out that there are some keys to determine if someone suffers from this syndrome.

"The first thing we have to see is how long the patient has been with the symptoms. If he suffers them for more than six weeks, we can talk about the fact that he suffers from the syndrome," he asserts.

He explains that the so-called post-effort fatigue should also be taken into account, which worsens after physical and mental effort, in addition to short-term memory loss and muscle, head or joint pain.

He assures that the type of life of the average Latin American aggravates this type of ailments since they are subjected to strenuous work rhythms.

"They have little time to have fun or relax. In large cities the stress of being in transport leads to depressive states and getting up very early prevents having a good night’s sleep, just to give a few examples," explains the expert.

In the same way, it warns that in women this syndrome affects five times more than in men.

"They have responsibility for work, home, hormonal imbalances and all this affects the development of this condition," he says.

He points out that although there is no specific treatment for this problem, it is always recommended to exercise regularly, sometimes it is necessary to give drugs and vitamins that contain B complex and folic acid.

While in women it is advisable to take time to themselves and "not give themselves completely to their children or to work," says Carrasco Curiel.

When the affectations also occur at the mental level, the patient should be sent to a psychologist.

But what must be taken into account is that all this does not have an immediate effect, but has to be gradual.

Finally, it details that it is important for top-level doctors to be alert to symptoms in order to make a more timely diagnosis and avoid complications in this regard.

"He is responsible for taking a specific medical history and must refer him to the different specialists to treat the different symptoms. But it is important to become aware of it," he concludes.
