The number 58 scares the flies and everything has a logical explanation. This is one of the oldest methods, it is a bit of a strange action and many might say that it could not work but science says otherwise.
Science explains that the way flies see makes them look at the number 58 like a spider web.
One of the restaurants that put this strange method to the test was the Bar-Restaurant El Caserío de Arrigorriaga, Idoia Salcedo and Joseba Urrutikoetxea. Unbelievably after a while, the flies disappeared. How did this happen?.
They placed the large paper with the number 58 in each strategic point of the restaurant , this happened three years ago. In an interview given by the owner of the restaurant, he said that the effect is not immediate but that it was very effective.
"Now we have three numbers on the bar and another in the kitchen. The effect is not immediate, we have to wait a few days. And no, we don’t know why 58 exactly, but there are no flies anymore."
Salcedo and Urrutikoetxea explained that the only advice they give is that there is a contrast between the background and the number.
