Grandparents do have a favorite grandchild, they do not love them equally

Just as parents have a favorite child, grandparents also have a grandson with whom they like to spend more time, and a study proves it

When parents are asked if they have a child they love more, their answer is almost always no, but the balance ends up leaning towards one in dealings, in understanding or in the freedom that is given, but what happens in the case of grandparents? Well, yes, they also have a favorite grandson, they don’t all love them equally and their dealings can be even more obvious.

According to a study carried out in the United Kingdom, it was pointed out that 7 out of 10 parents have a favorite child even if they are not aware of it or do not want to accept it, but not only do they have a favorite, grandparents also have with a grandson whom they adore more than the rest , they don’t love them equally, it’s just that it’s very difficult for them to recognize him.

Grandparents are important figures in the lives of children, they are figures of love, authority, respect, wisdom, but when they begin to treat their grandchildren differently, this can cause a clash of emotions in the family, because no parent he likes that they make his heir of us or that they treat him differently from the rest of his cousins, and that favoritism is real and is recognized.

It is said that parents have a favorite child and it is the children themselves who realize this because of the treatment that, although very hidden, they do notice the difference, but this also happens with grandparents, they also have a favorite grandchild and They realize this because when everyone comes to visit them, there is one they hug the most, the one they give the most pampering, the one they pamper the most.

They don’t scold that favorite grandson so much for committing mischief, they fulfill his whims and cravings, they speak to him with greater tenderness, they help him more, this when those preferences are more marked, this makes both the other grandchildren, as well as the parents, feel bad or uncomfortable and can even trigger a family lawsuit due to this situation, because nobody likes to see their children make them look less or treat them differently.

But not in all cases these differences are so specific and obvious, some grandparents are more discreet with their favoritism and claim to love everyone equally, although a study conducted by the University of Helsinki and the University of Oxford, published in 2011, affirms that they also tend to show a preferential behavior towards their children’s children.

However, unlike the preference that occurs with parents, in grandparents there is a particular characteristic to choose their spoiled grandchild, and that is that the study emphasized that in most cases it is the first grandchild who dethrones to all those born after him, because it is this baby who gives them the title of grandparents and the first one they see born, grow and live with them.

So the first grandchild, the one who gives them the title of grandparents, will be the favorite, although Arthur Kornhaber , a psychiatrist by profession, also points out that another favorite grandchild of the grandparents is the next baby who is of the opposite sex to the first, that is, if their first grandchild was a boy, they will be looking forward to having a girl as their granddaughter, while if their first grandchild was a girl, they will be expecting a boy.
