In order to take care of the health of Mexicans, COFEPRIS has targeted a mineral solution and warns that Chlorine Dioxide does not cure covid-19 or cancer, warns about its consumption and asks not to endanger health.
Through a statement, the COFEPRIS (Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks), announced that the substance known as Chlorine Dioxide or miracle mineral solution (SMM), represents a health risk and it is a lie that it cures the covid -19 or cancer.

In this statement released through the Federal Government page in the section on health risks, COFEPRIS points out that there is no scientific evidence to support that the use of clearing dioxide is efficient for the treatment of any disease.
Under this argument, the health authority does not have any authorized registration for any drug that contains substances of Chlorine Dioxide, Sodium Chlorite, so it insisted not to consume it as a treatment or prevention against the coronavirus.
What is Chlorine Dioxide
Chlorine Dioxide is a reddish-yellow gas that is used in industrial processes such as papermaking or to treat water, and the substance is highly reactive.
If a person consumes Chlorine Dioxide, it will have consequences on their health such as irritation of the mouth, irritation of the esophagus and stomach, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, as well as cardiovascular and kidney disorders.
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and COFEPRIS warn about the irresponsible commercialization of this substance that is supplied as prevention and treatment of diseases, among which cancer and covid-19 stand out.
To avoid putting health at risk with Chlorine Dioxide, COFEPRIS recommends:
- Follow the instructions of the health authorities to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
- In the event of any symptoms of illness, contact the Health Services of your state and follow the recommendations.
- Adhere to the indications of health professionals for the treatment of any condition.
- If you are consuming or are being administered a product derived from chlorine dioxide, immediately discontinue use.
- Raise the Health Report in the event that any health care establishment offers this product as an alternative in the treatment of any disease.
- Report any adverse reaction or discomfort related to the use or consumption of medications.
