According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the use of face masks is only recommended for a person carrying the virus, for medical personnel and for close relatives of a sick person.

The recommendation of the World Health Organization, more than the use of masks, is constant hand washing, avoiding touching your face and keeping your distance, so it is advisable not to be in public places.

The masks or mouth covers are designed for people sick with COVID-19 and for the people who are in the care of this infected person, since this prevents transmitting the virus, as specified by Dr. Mike Ryan, director of emergency programs from the WHO.

However, there is debate between the use of face masks in the face of this pandemic, since in an article published by "The Washington Post", Australian scientist Jeremy Howard considers masks a key ally to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

Effective curve-flattening masks can be made at home with nothing more than a t-shirt and scissors. We should all wear masks, store-bought or homemade, whenever we’re in public

In addition, he added to this article that the cities where the COVID-19 pandemic began, all wore a mask to keep the pandemic under control and if it is an asymptomatic carrier, it will not spread the virus.

On the other hand, the General Director of Health in France, Jérome Salomon, indicates that the use of the mask does not work, since people constantly touch their faces and the mask, so the contagion is still there, since if the virus is in the mask, it is easy to transmit it.
