Couple Travel To The Fiji Islands, Sick And Lose Their Life

Michelle and David Paul were going to take a dream trip, however they caught a mysterious disease that cost them their lives

What would be the best trip of his life turned into a nightmare for an American couple who did not return alive from him. David and Michelle arrived on the tropical island on May 22.

According to what was reported by a spokesman for the United States Department of Defense, the couple from Forth Worth, Texas were vacationing in the Fiji Islands when they contracted an unknown disease that cost them their lives.

Shortly after starting that "unforgettable trip", Michelle contacted her father, Marc Calanog and told him that they were sick, as they had vomiting and diarrhea, apart from that their hands were numb.

According to what Michelle’s father told NBC, they both went to the island’s clinic and from there they went to the hospital where they were treated and were allowed to leave. However, things got complicated, since after that Paúl fell into a critical situation and despite being transferred to a hospital in Australia, he unfortunately lost his life.

On May 25, the day before the couple planned their return, the family in Fort Wort received the shocking news that the woman had also passed away.

According to a news cable from the Associated Press (AP) agency, the Fijian Ministry of Health and Medical Services stated that Michelle and David Paul lost their lives in just days despite all the medical care they received.

Although public health measures were already implemented locally but they did not specify what it was about. The couple had a two-year-old son, Ayden, and David Paul had a daughter from a previous relationship in his marriage to Michelle. Ayden was left in the care of Michelle’s parents.

It is said that the State Department is monitoring the local authorities regarding the investigation of the death of the couple and they are working together, they have even received samples that were sent from Fiji to the Center for Disease Control (CDC for its acronym in English).
